Michael Maguire has pulled off an early coup, convincing Luke Brooks to remain at Wests Tigers until the end of 2023.

The Tigers No.7 on Monday put pen to paper on a four-year NRL contract extension.

When he took over as coach five weeks ago, Maguire made the retention of the 2018 Dally M halfback of the year a priority.

Brooks was off contract at the end of 2019, but the Tigers have now signed the 23-year-old to a long-term deal.

"I'm pretty excited to be here for the next five years, I've been here my whole career and I'm happy to stay," Brooks said.

"We're building something nice here, with Madge coming in - he's a successful coach and I think he's going to be good for our team."

Brooks is a Tigers junior and it is the second time in two years he has resisted the temptation to look elsewhere.

Early last year he had the opportunity to depart the club with the other members of the "big four" - Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses and James Tedesco - and was the only member of the group to recommit.

"This club means a lot to me and I really love this club, I love playing here, I love playing with all of the boys, it's what I've known for pretty much all of my life and I'm happy to be here," Brooks said.

"This will allow me to just focus on footy and now I've just got to play consistent footy and do my job for the team.

"I just want to build on what we did last year as a team and for myself I want to keep playing consistent footy."
