Ben Brown's late-season surge is giving success-starved North Melbourne fans something to cheer about.

While the Kangaroos have lost six games in succession Brown sits in a group of four players equal third in the Coleman Medal standings on 41 goals, chasing Sydney's Lance Franklin on 47.

Essendon's Joe Daniher, who Brown's team faces on Saturday afternoon at Etihad Stadium, is on 45.

After managing just 5.5 from rounds 10 to 14, the 24-year-old Brown has fired up with 10.4 in the past three rounds.

Scott said Brown had been a "shining light" who was an important part of North's future.

"He's in great touch and we're looking to give him a bit more support down there," the coach said of the Tasmanian product.

"He's just been fantastic the way he's gone about it."

While Brown is making an impression, experienced defender Sam Wright having a season to forget.

Wright is yet to play a senior game in 2017, having struggled to overcome ankle and foot injuries.

"All I can say is that we're exploring all options to make sure we get Sam 100 per cent and he's not quite there," Scott said.

"It's been a really frustrating run for him but he won't play this week and we'll keep assessing options from there."
