Brown joins North's coaching panel in AFL

Gavin Brown has quit Carlton to become an assistant coach at AFL rival North Melbourne.

North Melbourne have further strengthened their AFL coaching panel for 2014 by luring Gavin Brown from Carlton.

The former Collingwood captain and premiership player had spent the past three seasons working under Brett Ratten and Mick Malthouse at the Blues.

He joins Brad Scott's coaching staff at the Kangaroos less than a week after another highly-rated assistant, Leigh Tudor, joined the club from Sydney.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the last three years at Carlton and made some fantastic friends there and built some strong relationships with the players," Brown said in a statement.

"As disappointed as I am to be leaving, it's also a great opportunity for me to go across to North who are also on the way up.

"I'm really excited because I see North as being another club on the move.

"They have some fantastic talent there and are really exciting to watch."

Malthouse paid tribute to his departing deputy.

"In his three years at Carlton, Gavin has developed a great relationship with the playing group and displayed a level of excellence across all facets of his coaching," Malthouse said.
