Bookmakers suspended their Brownlow Medal markets ahead of confirmation about how many AFL games Gary Ablett will miss with his dislocated shoulder.
No player has won the Brownlow after missing more than four weeks that season.
The Gold Coast captain suffered the injury to his left shoulder in Saturday's big win over Collingwood at Metricon Stadium.
Ablett will undergo scans on Monday to determine how long he will be out of action.
In one of the biggest moments of the season, Ablett's tagger Brent Macaffer caught him with a fierce tackle during the third quarter.
The shoulder popped out when the Suns star hit the ground.
Ablett immediately left the ground in agony and did not talk to the media post-match.
The Suns issued a media statement on Sunday, saying their medical staff were able to relocate and stabilise the shoulder immediately.
Before the injury, Ablett was the strong favourite to win his third Brownlow.
He comfortably led the betting at $1.60, with Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury next at $7.00.
Ablett won the Brownlow last season and also in 2009 when he was at Geelong.
There were initial fears that the dislocation would need surgery and Ablett's season might be over.
But the latest speculation ahead of the scan results is that Ablett might only miss three to four weeks.
Ablett, one of the top players of the modern era, played in two premiership sides at Geelong and is a seven-time All Australian.
Despite turning 30 in May, if anything Ablett has kept improving this season and is certain to have had a string of three-vote games for the Brownlow.
