Brumbies aim to rediscover Canberra mojo

The Brumbies are out to rediscover their "mojo" where they last left it: Canberra Stadium.

Three games left, three wins required.

That's the only way the battered Brumbies can be a Super Rugby force come finals after a disastrous two-week tour in South Africa that yielded just one competition point.

Fortunately two of those matches will be at their fortress where they've won five in a row.

And it's a ground where Saturday's opponents the Melbourne Rebels have never tasted victory.

"Hopefully we'll get our mojo back," said Brumbies winger Henry Speight, who will spend the June Test window training with the Wallabies ahead of his September eligibility.

"We beat the top team (Sharks) before we went away on tour - we won't have lost our form in two weeks."

Sure, that kickathon win over the Sharks was ugly, but just two weeks earlier the Brumbies destroyed reigning premiers the Chiefs in Canberra with an awesome display of running rugby.

While the Brumbies could still make the top six, even if they lose one of their last three, that's not an option for head coach Stephen Larkham.

He knows that only the 1999 Crusaders have won the title from outside the top two in Super Rugby's 18 year history.

"We have to win every game from here," he said.

"But that's not a bad challenge.

"At the start of the year, if someone said you've got three games to win to get to the finals you'd probably take that."

Larkham admits his side's confidence took a bit of a hit in South Africa, but he's adamant they'll be hungrier than the out-of-contention Rebels.

"There's a little more pressure on us as our season is on the line," he said.

"But I like to think we've got a stronger urge to win."

The Brumbies will also play the Waratahs away and the Western Force at home after the June Test window - pivotal clashes as both teams are slightly ahead of them in the Australian conference.

But for now "the game this weekend is the most important of our season", insists Larkham.
