Rookie Rory Arnold will join returning halfback Nic White in the Brumbies' starting line-up for Sunday's Super Rugby clash with the Stormers in Cape Town.

The Australian conference leaders confirmed White will play the first of two matches in South Africa after being sidelined with an ankle injury the past month.

Rookie Arnold, who was left out of the 23-man squad for last week's game against the NSW Waratahs, returns as a line-out option.

The Brumbies beat the Stormers when they met in Canberra last year, but haven't won in Cape Town since 2010.

"It's a crucial week for both our seasons - the winner gives themselves a chance at finals while the loser will have a hard time from here on in," said White.

"They're playing at home and they're playing with a lot of confidence.

"Any time you get a big game at home it helps you lift and I'm guessing they'll use that extra boost on Saturday."

White said the Stormers, coming off a loss to the Cheetahs, have always been very strong at the set pieces, their scrum and line-out.

"But this year I think they've added an attacking flair which we haven't seen a lot of and that's going to be something we need to contain," he added.

Brumbies: Jesse Mogg, Henry Speight, Tevita Kuridrani, Robert Coleman, Joe Tomane, Christian Lealliifano, Nic White, Ita Vaea, David Pocock, Scott Fardy, Sam Carter, Rory Arnold, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, JP Smith. Reserves: Josh Mann-Rea, Allan Alaalatoa, Ruan Smith, Jorden Smiler, Jarrad Butler, Michael Dowsett, James Dargaville, Nigel Ah Wong.
