Developing Danny Buderus as a head coach in his own right will be one of Nathan Brown's chief objectives when he takes over the top job at Newcastle ahead of the 2016 NRL season.

Brown was confirmed as the new Knights coach on Thursday. He will succeed Rick Stone who was sacked earlier this year. Buderus has since filled in as caretaker coach and has helped to reinvigorate the club over the last two months.

The Knights see club legend Buderus as a future NRL mentor and chief executive Matt Gidley said Brown will be charged with the responsibility of maturing the former representative hooker in his clipboard holding duties.

"I think everything our club stands for is embodied in Danny and everyone respects what he has done in the last seven weeks," Gidley said.

"Danny has certainly enjoyed the last seven weeks, he has done a remarkable job, he has done everything asked of him. He is really looking forward to developing as a coach.

Gidley said Brown had been able to successfully develop coaches under him in his time in Super League and the Knights wanted that to continue.

"Every coach we spoke to, we made it really clear we see Danny as a potential head coach of the future," Gidley said.

"He recognises himself that he needs to continue to develop and whatever coach comes in we will make sure he helps Danny to progress his coaching."
