Building watchdog bill clears Senate

The Senate has passed government legislation restoring the Australian Building and Construction Commission.

The Turnbull government's plan to restore the building industry watchdog has cleared the Senate.

Legislation for the Australian Building and Construction Commission - first established by the Howard coalitiom government in 2005 and replaced by Labor in 2007 - passed the upper house on Wednesday morning.

It followed the passage last week of legislation establishing a registered organisations commission - the other bill used to trigger the July 2 double-dissolution federal election.
