Jacob Loko's NRL career with Canterbury is under a cloud before he has played a game for the Bulldogs, after he was arrested and charged for drink-driving.

In a statement issued by the Bulldogs, the club confirmed Loko was arrested early on Friday in Manly after recording a blood alcohol level almost four times the legal limit.

Police said they stopped a black Nissan Murano on Whistler Street, Manly after it was seen travelling without any headlights on and the driver - a 22-year-old man from Belmore - was charged with high range drink driving after returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.189.

He was scheduled to appear in Manly Local Court on February 26.

"The club finds Loko's actions unacceptable and the incident will be dealt with under the player code of conduct and the punishment applied will be completed in consultation with the NRL integrity unit," said the Bulldogs' statement.

An outside back who can play either fullback, wing or centre, Loko joined Canterbury from Parramatta in July last year but is yet to play for the Bulldogs after battling a knee injury for much of 2014.

He played 23 NRL games in four seasons for the Eels.
