Canterbury enforcer Aaron Woods admits his new club needs to ask more questions in attack, labelling the season so far a failure.
The Bulldogs' dour showing in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Sydney Roosters was a case in point of the side's offensive struggles this season.
They failed to score despite having 52 tackles inside the Roosters' 20-metre zone and have averaged just two tries an outing across the first seven games this season to sit 14th.
"It's probably a fail at the moment; we've only won two games out of seven," Woods, who arrived from Wests Tigers this season, said.
"I think we've got to throw a lot more questions. We can't be going one-out and trying to solve it ourselves."
The Bulldogs have averaged 14.71 points a game this season, marginally less than the 15.7 at this point last season before the departure of coach Des Hasler.
Optimism remains at Belmore though, according to the experienced Woods.
"The times we've played the footy we know we can play we look really good, but when we play simple footy we're not asking questions of the defensive line," he said.
"We've been OK at times, but we've got to be a lot better.
"We've got our defence back, it's going really well, we just need to score more tries."
The Bulldogs meet the third-placed Panthers on Friday.
