Bullet proof vests for police dogs

Police dogs in the US are trying on a brand new coat - a bullet proof vest. Should police dogs wear bullet-proof vests in Australia?

The use of fire-arms in police operations makes a canine's day at work a dangerous one.

A New York company is working to keep police dogs safe, with specially designed bullet-proof vests. A not-for-profit is raising funds to purchase the vests.

Similar products have been trialled in Australia.

Last year, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) issued a tender to the market for protective vests for its service dogs performing both within Australia and overseas.
