A 52-year-old man who was holding a hostage in a Bunbury park has surrendered to West Australian police.

The man being held hostage in a Bunbury park was released on Friday morning. Reporters at the scene, south of Perth, said a man had stripped to his underwear and walked to police with his hands in the air.

Two shots were fired before the hostage taker surrendered, ABC News reported.

Heavily armed officers converged on a park in the West Australian city of Bunbury, where a man held another man
hostage on Thursday night. Officers were called to the scene at about 6.20pm on Thursday local time.

The siege ended around 7am local time after more than 12 hours.

Police have refused to confirm reports the man was armed with explosives. Earlier the man had erected a sign urging police to release the "Batty Archibald CCC report".
