Bunnings chief executive and managing director John Gillam has stepped down after 12 years at the helm of the market-dominating hardware chain.
Mr Gillam, who has been with parent company Wesfarmers for nearly 20 years and head of Bunnings since 2004, will continue to support the business in an advisory role.
His resignation comes as part of a new management structure after Bunnings acquired UK home improvement chain Homebase in January.
Bunnings Australia and New Zealand head Mike Schneider and Bunnings UK and Ireland head Peter Davis will now report directly to Wesfarmers managing director Richard Goyder.
Mr Goyder praised Mr Gillam's for his two decades of service to the company.
"His performance at the helm of Bunnings has seen him now recognised as one of Australia's leading retailers and Bunnings is now a national institution," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Gillam, who had previously worked in Wesfarmers business development and as Bunnings chief financial officer, believes it is the right time to pass on the leadership baton.
"Mike and PJ have been outstanding leaders in helping drive the growth and success of Bunnings and are well placed to take the business forward," he said.
