Hawthorn star Shaun Burgoyne has signed a one-year contract, putting the AFL indigenous games record within reach.
The Hawks have confirmed that the 35-year-old utility will continue his career into an 18th season.
Burgoyne is already the game's oldest current player and he has played 353 games.
The new contract means next year he could break Adam Goodes' indigenous record of 372 matches.
"I'm pretty excited to go around again," Burgoyne told the club website.
"It was another big decision and a big step, but I'm excited where the team is at and I feel I can contribute,.
"I have been able to play a really good role (this season).
""'Clarko' (coach Alastair Clarkson) was happy with that so it was an easy decision."
Burgoyne has missed seven games this season because of two hamstring strains, inevitably raising some questions about whether he would continue next year.
But the Hawks are happy with how he recovered from the injuries and football boss Graham Wright said they are thrilled he will keep playing.
"He's been an exceptional player for our footy club for a long time and the leadership, experience and versatility he brings to our playing group is certainly not undervalued," Wright said.
"We feel he's got a lot of quality footy left in him and we're excited to see what he can produce for the remainder of the season, and again in 2019."
Burgoyne, a four-time premiership player, has played 196 games for the Hawks since joining them from Port Adelaide.
He played 157 games for the Power from 2002-09.
