Burnt-down Tas fire station to be rebuilt

A Tasmanian volunteer fire station destroyed in a suspicious fire will be rebuilt, the state government has promised.

A Tasmanian volunteer fire station and two trucks destroyed in a suspicious fire will be rebuilt and replaced, the government has promised.

The Middleton station was set alight shortly before 7pm on Saturday, with damage estimated at $600,000.

Police say three members of the public tried to douse the fire and had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Liberal state government on Sunday said it would fund rebuilding the station.

"I am pleased to be able to confirm that the fire station will be rebuilt, and all destroyed and damaged appliances replaced," Member for Franklin Nic Street said.
