Bus crash in Nepal kills 23

At least 23 people are dead after a bus crash in the Makwanpur District of southern Nepal.

A bus crowded with holiday travellers has veered off a mountain road in southern Nepal, killing at least 23 people.

Police say the vehicle rolled about 300 metres downhill near the village of Chatiwan before landing in trees.

They say rescuers were trying on Monday to help the injured and retrieve bodies but the wreckage was proving difficult to reach.

The bus was carrying nearly 100 people. Many of them were on their way to celebrate the annual two-week Dasain festival with relatives.
