Lives and homes are under immediate threat from a fast-moving and out-of-control bushfire north of Perth.

The fire threat has been upgraded to an emergency warning for people in Wedge, west of Grey Road, in the Shire of Dandaragan as the fire has jumped Indian Ocean Drive.

The blaze is now just 4km from Wedge Island Road, with local residents needing to act immediately to survive according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

A bushfire watch and act warning remains for people west of Brand Highway, between Meadows Road and Wongonderrah Road to the coast, including the Grey Settlement and surrounding areas, in the Shire of Dandaragan.

The lightning-sparked blaze is burning in inaccessible terrain and has destroyed 14,700 hectares since it started about 8pm on Tuesday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services says.

Meanwhile, a fire that was threatening homes in Forrestdale, in Perth's east, has been downgraded to an advice.

The blaze, which was caused by a vehicle fire about 12am on Friday, is contained and under control.
