A bushfire at Tantanoola in South Australia's Lower South East region has eased but may still threaten the safety of residents.

The Country Fire Service says ground crews are patrolling and mopping up the fire area.

Although the immediate threat to public safety has reduced, the fire may still threaten residents in the Glencoe, Glencoe West, Tantanoola and Burrungule areas.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and stay tuned to a battery-powered radio for updates.
