Bushfire threat downgraded in WA's south

An emergency bushfire warning has been downgraded in parts of the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River in southern Western Australia.

A bushfire in Western Australia's South West region has been downgraded by authorities, with the blaze no longer a threat to lives and property.

The fire started near the intersection of Brockman Highway and Beck Road in Courtenay, in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, just after 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said a lot of smoke remained in the area and residents should be mindful in case the situation changes.

It also said an earlier alert for the shire of Capel had been downgraded with the fire contained and controlled.
