Firefighters are bracing for a tough few days ahead with gusty winds expected to challenge efforts to contain a blaze in the NSW Blue Mountains.
The blaze at Wentworth Falls was downgraded from an emergency warning level to watch and act on Sunday night.
While the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said the immediate threat to homes on Coronation Rd eased, firefighters were still working to protect properties on the street.
Light rain also began to fall across the fire ground on Sunday night after gusty winds during the day flared the fire.
The blaze has burned more than 300 hectares.
RFS Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers confirmed the fire was burning in difficult to access terrain.
"We have relied a lot on helicopters and as we have reported the winds have been really difficult," he told the Seven Network.
"And we are expecting these gusty winds, 40-60km/h and even gusting higher for the next couple of days.
"So I think we are going to have some tough days ahead of us."
The fire sparked on Friday and about 150 firefighters were on the ground on Sunday attempting to suppress the blaze in the area of Hordern Road and Tableland Road.
The RFS has advised residents to monitor the situation and reminded them that "leaving early is the safest option".
