A watch and act has been issued for people near the Western Areas mine site near in Forrestania in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region.

A bushfire is threatening lives and homes near a Western Areas mine in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.

A watch and act alert has been issued for a fire burning near Hyden-Norseman and Marvel Loch-Forrestania Road in Forrestania, about 65km east of Hyden.

Emergency services are telling people to leave or prepare to defend their property.
