An out of control and unpredictable bushfire is threatening lives in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

A watch and act alert has been issued for people travelling along Tom Price-Paraburdoo Road near the southwestern part of Karijini National Park in the Shire of Ashburton.

"There is a possible threat to lives as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing. You need to leave," the Department of Parks and Wildlife said on Monday afternoon.

The fire started in the southern part of Karijini National Park and is burning towards Tom Price-Paraburdoo Road.

It was first reported on September 16 and has been re-ignited.

The cause of the blaze is suspicious.

The department is working closely with neighbouring landowners who have been notified of the fire.
