Business lays out budget priorities

A new survey by the Australian Industry Group ahead of Tuesday's budget has found businesses putting tax relief as their number one priority.

Tax relief, infrastructure spending and bringing the nation's finances back to balance in five years should be Treasurer Scott Morrison's top priorities for next Tuesday's budget, a leading business lobby group says.

A survey by the Australian Industry Group has found 30 per cent of businesses cited reducing the burden of business taxation as their leading priority, followed by public investment in infrastructure (25 per cent) and balancing the budget (14 per cent).

"Business will assess next Tuesday's budget against these priorities and will be encouraging all sides of politics to support policies that underpin the business investment and improved productivity required to lift community living standards," Ai Group chief executive Innes Willox said on Friday.

Other priorities among the 400 large and small businesses survey include reducing personal income tax (13 per cent), increasing workplace training apprenticeships (eight per cent) and spending on research, development and innovation (six per cent).
