Being punched by a punter and then chasing down a hoon driver through the streets of Perth is a busy night for a police recruit - but Blaze the horse took it in his four-legged stride.
The overworked equine officer brushed off an earlier assault in Perth's party district to play a part in impounding the car of an alleged hoon in the early hours of Sunday.
At around 10.35pm (WST) on Saturday, officers from the mounted section issued a move on notice when a 28-year-old man approached police horse Blaze and started patting her nose near the corner of James and William streets in Northbridge.
When asked to move away, police say the man punched the horse on the shoulder.
He was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour and is due to appear in court on February 21.
Police are also considering a potential cruelty to animals charge.
Three hours later, horse and rider were on patrol on Beaufort Street when the driver of a Nissan Skyline performed a burnout in front of them.
Blaze and another police horse Winnie gave chase to the car on Beaufort Street, while the riders alerted a nearby police vehicle, and gave updates to which way the vehicle was driving.
The Nissan Skyline was soon intercepted by police on Money Street, with Blaze and Winnie arriving shortly after.
The vehicle was impounded for 28 days and the driver will face traffic charges.
