California drenched by 'Pineapple Express'

The 'Pineapple Express' storm drenching Northern California has continued to cause swelling rivers and flight cancellations.

Northern California continues to be drenched by a powerful "Pineapple Express" storm that flooded roadways, forced flight cancellations and caused a rare baseball washout.

Food warnings and watches remained in effect for Saturday for the Sierra Nevada, the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Francisco and other areas.

Forecasters say runoff from melting snow could add to the chance of rapidly rising streams and rivers.

Police rescued a man who became trapped in a rain-swollen drainage channel near Sacramento.

The state capital saw more than 3cm of rain on Friday and San Francisco saw 5cm.

San Francisco International Airport reported about 150 cancelled flights were Friday because of the weather.

It also saw the baseball game between California rivals Dodgers and Giants being called off on Friday.
