Amnesty International is calling on European governments to take immediate steps to end the ongoing catastrophe in the Mediterranean.
It comes after more than 800 African migrants are feared dead when their boat capsized off Libya on Sunday.
There's been increased pressure on European leaders to take a collective stand to tackle migrant trafficking at its source in African countries.
Amnesty is publishing a plan which details the challenges of current search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean and sets out ways to improve it.
The group's Gari Van Gulik spoke to Zara Zaher about its proposal.
