The Australian Red Cross has issued a call for calm, after one of its nurses self-identified as a possible Ebola victim after returning to Queensland from West Africa.

The Red Cross says 57-year-old SueEllen Kovack, who had been working for a month in an Ebola hospital in Sierra Leone, admitted herself to a Cairns hospital for tests after developing a low-grade fever.

Head of the Red Cross International Program, Peter Walton, told Van Nguyen Ms Kovak has acted responsibly, and there's no reason for any public concern.
