A parliamentary committee is calling for country-of-origin labelling on seafood sold in restaurants and funding for major aquaculture projects in northern Australia.
The joint committee on Northern Australia wants the government to fork over money for road and port infrastructure for the Kimberley Aquaculture Development Zone and help research potential aquaculture zones near the Great Barrier Reef.
Scrapping an exemption for country-of-origin labelling for cooked seafood - which has already been done in the Northern Territory - is one of 11 recommendations tabled in parliament on Monday.
