Britain is about to undergo an ambitious plan to teach computer coding to all public school kids.
Some think that plan should also happen here in Australia to meet a growing shortage of IT specialists.
"Think of what the world would be like today if only specialists were able to write - where everybody could read but only specialists could write - that's the world of computing we're in today," says Associate Professor Barry Jay at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Critics point out that the plan will require Britain to retrain vast numbers of teachers.
But supporters say it's something teachers should already know, to help better prepare children to take our increasing reliance on computers to the next level.
"I don't think anyone can deny that schools will be a better place and children will be better prepared for the future if they understand the language of the future and that is computer programing," British secretary for state education Michael Gove says.
