Ms Cameron suffered a knee injury which ruled her out of the New York marathon last year, but today in Melbourne her hard work paid off when she finally finished the marathon she started in Boston in April.
The 31-year-old was close to tears as she crossed the finish line.
“I can't put it in words, really, just, I finally did it.”
Ms Cameron was at the 40 kilometre mark of the Boston marathon when tragedy marred the race.
The attack left her shaken, but didn't ruin her determination to finish a marathon.
“My poor family and friends have copped it, but you know they have absolute faith in me and always back me in this, so this is for them as well, not just for me.”
Former world champion marathon runner Rob de Castella helped Emma get to this point, through the Indigenous Marathon Project.
And he couldn't be prouder when she completed the race.
“This morning was really an opportunity for a whole group of people, who have been inspired by Emma, to pay tribute to her, and just to acknowledge the champion and the determination."
Emma was among more than 33,000 who competed across five events - making this year the largest Melbourne marathon festival ever.
