AFL defenders beware, GWS spearhead Jeremy Cameron appears to be getting back to his powerful best.

Cameron's seven-goal haul in the Giants' upset win over Hawthorn on Saturday equalled his career-best effort against Collingwood back in 2013.

It was a performance to gladden the heart of every Giants fan and Cameron himself, after he endured a frustrating and injury-plagued 2014 campaign.

Although he finished their leading goalkicker for the third time in as many seasons, his tally of 29 was less than half of his 2013 All-Australian season.

Cameron has kicked 19 goals in six games this season, but it's his passion for the contest that is pleasing his coach.

"He's had a good year," Giants' coach Leon Cameron said.

"He continues to batter his body in terms of just throwing himself at everything, which we love about him.

"His energy to just keep on keeping on and make really good decisions and kick crunch goals when they had to be kicked, was a sign of his maturity."

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson acknowledged how difficult it was to contain the Giants spearhead after his team turned over the ball and it was delivered accurately to Cameron.

"A lot of those balls were deep and right on the goal-line and a lot of that is because of a turnover that goes very very quickly and straight at your defence and gets out the back," Clarkson said.

"It's very very difficult to defend that, particularly against a player of his sort of his quality, so we need to up that area of our game.

"We're usually a really potent side at being able to force pressure on the opposition and create turnovers like that in the middle of the ground ourselves.

"We weren't able to do that tonight anywhere near as well as GWS and that was where the game was won and lost."

Midfield recruit Ryan Griffen had his best game in Giants colours, after his coach felt he was previously alternating between good and struggling performances.

"He's starting to work out the connection he has with Shane Mumford, the connection he has with the other midfielders," Cameron said.

"I was really proud of him, because he knew he struggled last week and being a leader, I knew he would stand up and I thought he did tonight."
