Campaign to raise funds for 'remarkable' Eurydice Dixon's family gains momentum

An effort to raise funds for the family of comedian Eurydice Dixon, who was slain in Melbourne as she walked home from a gig, has well surpassed expectations.

A campaign to raise funds for the family of aspiring Melbourne comic Eurydice Dixon, whose body was found on a soccer field, has already raised some $40,000.

Ms Dixon had just finished a gig making people laugh at the CBD's Highlander Bar on Tuesday night, but she never made it home.

The 22-year-old's body was found by a passer-by in Princes Park at North Carlton about 3am Wednesday.

Her accused killer, Jaymes Todd, 19 of Broadmeadows, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with rape and murder.

Fairfax Media reports the accused's lawyer told the court Todd has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and is socially regressive. Todd has been remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on October 3.

Those touched by the tragedy have helped raise the money on crowd funding platform GoFundMe, for Ms Dixon's family, well surpassing its $1500 goal.

The campaign was set up by Luka Muller, a friend of Ms Dixon's from the comedy scene.

"These funds are being raised for the family of the victim, who I have had contact with," he said on the website.

"I understand that Eurydice's father wishes to donate a large portion of the funds to charities that Eurydice supported."

Comedians including Cal Wilson, Anne Edmonds and Celia Pacquola are among those to have made pledges.

Tributes

Friends of Ms Dixon gathered at a regular comedy night at the Exford Hotel in Melbourne's CBD to pay tribute to the young comedian, the ABC reports.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of the death of Eurydice Dixon. She was a remarkable, talented, kind, unique and universally loved person and the entire staff are shattered and heartbroken," Highlander Bar said in a statement.

Comedian Chris Franklin posted to Facebook, saying the "Melbourne comedy community is grieving today. Eurydice was one of ours."

"I worked with her over the last two festivals in Melbourne. All who can, in the comdey (sic) scene will be attending the Highlander gig next Tuesday to remember her," he wrote.

The New Zealand Comedy Guild has also reached out to the comedy community to express condolences, Mr Franklin wrote.

The Comedy Women's Association described Ms Dixon as "a unique and talented voice and will be very much missed".

Comedian Julia Morris took to Twitter to express her shock.

"I am absolutely shattered to hear of the despicable death of Eurydice Dixon," she wrote."An important and funny voice has been extinguished."

Police are confident Ms Dixon's death is not linked to a sex assault in the same area in March.
