Campaigner to run against minister

Danyse Soester will run against SA Education Minister in next month's election, spurred on by wanting to fix the system of revealing school sex abuse.

A mother involved in the push for the South Australian government to reveal sex abuse in schools is to contest the education minister's seat at next month's state election.

Danyse Soester, 45, will nominate as an independent candidate in the seat of Wright, held by Education Minister Jennifer Rankine.

Questions over how the education department and the government handled the 2010 rape of a young girl at a school in Adelaide's western suburbs led to the Debelle independent inquiry last year.

A string of other cases emerged where both the department's actions and the government's response have been questioned.

Ms Soester told the Advertiser her disappointment that the system had not been fixed spurred her to enter politics.

She is supported by Independent Senator Nick Xenophon and says she will not preference Labor, the Advertiser says.

The South Australian election will be held on March 15.
