Campbell Newman: 'I'm not coming back'

Former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has blamed the media for his political downfall and says he doesn't miss public life at all.

Former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has ruled out returning to politics as he blames media sensationalism for his stunning election loss.

Mr Newman lost his seat when his Liberal National Party was ousted from office in January despite securing the largest majority in Queensland's political history just three years earlier.

He has since returned to the agriculture sector, chairing the board of SwarmFarm - a company that builds robots for farming.

Mr Newman spent 13 years in politics, including as Brisbane's Lord Mayor, but says he was more interested in outcomes than politics.

He's told Landline he doesn't miss public life at all.

"You know, and just for the avoidance of doubt, I'm not coming back. I'm having far too much fun," he said.

Mr Newman blames both social media and the mainstream media for his political downfall.

"Government and politics isn't like a reality TV show. It's not about voting the bad guys out of the house," he said.

Voters would be "well advised" to get back into understanding politics, he said.

"I know they hate it because of the way it's being portrayed - they switch off, they think they're all fighting," he said.

"But it really is important for our democracy and our future that we actually engage."
