For just the second time, the Australian Swimmer of the Year award has been shared, this time by Bronte Campbell and Emily Seebohm.

Bronte also earned another entry in the record books, ensuring siblings had won the award for the first time after her older sister Cate Campbell took out the last two gongs.

Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett first shared the award in 2003.

Bronte finally emerged from her sister's shadow at the world titles in Russia last month, becoming just the third person in history to complete the 50m-100m freestyle double.

She was also the first Australian to achieve the feat.

It marked the second time she had left her older sister in her wake at the world titles after snapping defending champion Cate Campbell's unbeaten run since late 2012 in the 100m final.

Bronte bagged a third gold as part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team plus a bronze.

Seebohm, 23, also earned top honours after she became the fifth woman since 1973 to take the 100m-200m backstroke world titles double.

She finally downed US nemesis Missy Franklin to clinch her first 100m backstroke gold at her fifth world titles campaign.

She was also the first Australian to achieve the double.

Campbell and Seebohm also combined to help Australia also win 4x100m freestyle relay gold at Kazan.

The golden girls held out the claims of fellow contender Mitch Larkin who became the first man in 10 years to claim the 100m-200m backstroke double at the Kazan world titles.

Larkin won the Swimmers' Swimmer award while his mentor Michael Bohl was named Olympic Program Coach of the Year.

Paralympic Swimmer of the Year was Maddie Elliott who won four gold at this year's IPC world titles in Glasgow.
