Campese signs new Rovers deal

Hulk KR captain Terry Campese has signed a long-term extension at the club which will see him with the Robins through to the end of 2017.

Captain Terry Campese has given Hull KR a pre-derby boost by signing a new contract with the club.

The Australian halfback is only seven games into the one-year deal he signed when he left Canberra in the winter, but his impact has been such that the Robins have moved to secure his longer-term future.

The news of his extension, through to the end of 2017 with an option for an extra year, comes 48 hours ahead of his side's first Hull derby of the season.

"We're only seven games into the season but I think we've shown some good signs that we can do something this year," said Campese, who put in a man-of-the-match display in his side's 24-22 win over St Helens on Friday.

"This club is definitely going places and I'm glad to be a part of it."

Campese is the nephew of famous Australian union player David Campese, who saw him in action at Craven Park earlier this season when Rovers beat Wigan.

"I've really enjoyed my time here since arriving in the new year," Campese added.

"The coaching staff have been excellent, the boys are a tight-knit group and I couldn't ask for it to have run any smoother to be honest.

"That made it an easy decision in that I know what I've got here at Hull KR, how good the club is and how mad the fans are.

"Everybody is so passionate around the place and the city of Hull has been good to me as well. It reminds me of where I'm from back in Australia and I'm excited to stay here longer."

Campese's arrival has taken the sting out of the heavy off-season losses suffered by Hull KR, including half-back Travis Burns to St Helens and stand-out hooker Josh Hodgson to Campese's old club Canberra.

A former Australia international with over 100 NRL appearances to his name, his appearances have helped first-year coach Chris Chester settle into the job.
