Canada searchers concerned for Aust hiker

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say they have grave fears 34-year-old Australian hiker Sophie Dowsley who's missing in Canada's remote wilderness.

Canadian searchers continue to scour remote wilderness and waterways for missing Australian hiker Sophie Dowsley.

"We all remain concerned for Sophie's wellbeing," Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Corporal Mike Rail said on Saturday.

Grave fears are held for the 34-year-old from Melbourne after divers found Ms Dowsley's Canadian boyfriend Greg Tiffin's body in Statlu Lake, located about three hours' drive east of Vancouver, on Tuesday.

Mr Tiffin, a 44-year-old Canadian, and Ms Dowsley set out for their day hike to Statlu Lake on July 8 and concerns were raised for their safety four days later.

The area's terrain and trails are challenging, with searchers, including dog teams, flown to the sites by helicopter.
