Cancelling Border Force op 'bizarre': Pyne

Christopher Pyne is the first federal minister to comment on the Border Force debacle, saying it's 'bizarre' an operation had to be cancelled.

A federal minister believes it's "bizarre" an operation involving Australian Border Force officers won't go ahead this weekend.

Operation Fortitude was cancelled on Friday afternoon following widespread outrage at its planned actions, which would have included visa checks in Melbourne.

Christopher Pyne has told 3AW Radio he thinks it "bizarre" Victoria Police pulled out, noting "these sort of visa checking arrangements go on all the time - it's hardly a new thing".
