Car bursts into flames on Sydney highway

A Sydney driver was forced to abandon his car this morning on a major Sydney thoroughfare after it burst into flames.

Footage captured by SBS journalist Jeannette Francis, shot on the Gore Hill Freeway in Sydney's north, show drivers creeping along a busy section of road as a tower of smoke looms in the distance, before pulling alongside a car engulfed in flames.

A man- believed to be the driver- is shown standing a safe distance from the scene.

Units from NSW Fire and Rescue responded at the scene around 7.30am this morning.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, though commuters in the area were warned to expect delays.
