Car lands in tree after Melbourne crash

A man has escaped uninjured after his car became airborne and landed in a tree on a Melbourne street.

An errant foot has triggered a spectacular crash in Melbourne that left a car suspended off the ground by a tree.

Police say an elderly driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake when he was driving in Oakleigh on Monday morning.

His out-of-control vehicle hit another car, which was sent into the air and it came to rest wedged between a tree and a fence.

The rear of the car was left suspended several metres above the ground.

A man aged in his 40s, from the suspended car, was taken to hospital as a precaution, with non-life threatening injuries.

A witness told 3AW he saw the man hanging out of the driver's side door a metre off the ground.

The 83-year-old man and his female passenger in the other car were not injured.
