Hawaiian Carissa Moore has claimed her third Women's World Surf title, beating Australian Sally Fitzgibbons in a high-scoring final in the Maui Pro on Wednesday.
Moore, who had already wrapped up the championship after American Courtney Conlogue was defeated in the fourth round, produced a 19.50 final-round score to put the icing on the title cake at Honolua Bay.
It is the 23-year-old's second consecutive win at Maui, and came despite Fitzgibbons' high-ranking score of 17.90.
Fitzgibbon's runner-up finish was enough to easily claim third spot in the championship race.
Moore also had fellow Hawaiian Coco Ho to thank after she produced a 9.17 on her way to a two-wave total of 16.50, enough to beat Conlogue.
"I wasn't even thinking about it," Moore said.
"I was expecting Courtney to be in the final. It's crazy for it to happen so early in the day but I'm very thankful."
Moore also won world titles in 2011 and 2013.
