Carlton's Clem Smith could face disciplinary action from the Blues after the second-year forward was involved in a drunken altercation on Saturday night.
The 19-year-old is believed to have come off second best in the scuffle in the Chapel Street Precinct, and while the police were called, no charges were laid.
"Clem has apologised to his teammates and was obviously very remorseful," said Carlton CEO Steven Trigg.
"As a consequence of his actions he will undertake additional training as well as broader education.
Smith, who played seven games for Carlton in 2015, was struck in the face during the fight, however it is his and the club's reputation which has suffered bigger damage.
The Blues were left reeling in 2014 when Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett were sacked after being involved in a city brawl.
Trigg, and new coach Brendon Bolton, are now looking to make clear incidents similar to Smith's will not be acceptable under the new hierarchy.
"We are clearly disappointed as we've worked really hard to reset our standards, values and behaviours," Trigg said.
"It has been reinforced to Clem, and the rest of the playing group, that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated."
