Dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd says he'll decide after the 2014 AFL season if he wants to play on next year.

The 30-year-old veteran of 265 games said on Wednesday he was confident he had Carlton coach Mick Malthouse's full support, either to continue in 2015 or retire.

"Not big news," Judd grinned at the start of his media conference on Wednesday.

"Not a retirement press conference.

"It's your body that really decides whether or not you keep playing and the wise thing to do is to make that decision at the end of the year when you know exactly where your body sits.

"So we'll let everyone know what's going on at the end of the year."

Judd has played six games in 2014, his availability limited by Achilles and hamstring injuries.

"I've spoken to Mick in passing about retirement," Judd said.

"I'm really clear I've got his support whichever way I choose to go."

A premiership captain at West Coast, Judd has been named in the All-Australian side six times. The star midfielder has claimed five best-and-fairest awards, two with the Eagles and three with Carlton.

"We've got footy to play, we've got fans to please, we've got a lot of growth that needs to occur in our group to hold us in stead for next year," Judd said.

"And that should be the focus for the next six weeks at this footy club."

The 14th-placed Blues face sixth-placed North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Friday night in their round 18 clash.

Judd says while a premiership is out of the equation for 2014, the development of players is crucial. The former Carlton skipper says players such as Sam Rowe, Simon White and Levi Casboult have enjoyed career-best seasons.
