Carlton's Malthouse hopeful on Marc Murphy

Marc Murphy is likely to be named in Carlton's 22 to play North Melbourne despite nursing a glute injury, with coach Mick Malthouse hopeful he will be fit.

Carlton coach Mick Malthouse is hopeful skipper Marc Murphy will be fit to play North Melbourne in their crucial AFL match at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Murphy trained only lightly at the Blues' Visy Park headquarters on Thursday as he nursed a corked glute muscle sustained last weekend.

But the Blues look set to name him in their 22 later on Thursday.

"We're hopeful he'll play," Malthouse said on Thursday.

"It's a shorter break (between matches) - a six-day break - so we've got to be careful about that and sum it up and see how players pull up tomorrow."

Malthouse said midfielder Mitch Robinson, a late withdrawal from the win over St Kilda last weekend, would be fit for selection.

The ninth-placed Blues and 11th-placed North are vying for top-eight spots.
