Guido Carrillo scored a double as 10-man Estudiantes went top of the Argentinian Clausura table with a 2-1 home victory over Lanus on Wednesday.
Carrillo scored a goal in each half, the second a penalty just after the hour mark, with Santiago Silva scoring Lanus' reply on the stroke of half-time.
The home side had to play most of the game with 10 men after Jonathan Silva saw red on 30 minutes, making the result all the more impressive.
Meanwhile, third-placed Godoy Cruz came from behind to claim a 2-1 win over 10-man River Plate with goals from Leandro Grimi and second-half substitute Julio Rodriguez.
Fernando Cavenaghi had put River Plate ahead after 11 minutes before Grimi replied and Eder Balanta was sent off after 68 minutes.
Bottom side Quilmes suffered a 2-0 defeat to Colon Santa Fe, who scored two quickfire goals in the space of four first-half minutes from Gabriel Graciani and Lucas Landa to move them up to fifth in the table.
