Victorian Labor secretary Noah Carroll has been endorsed to replace George Wright as the party's national secretary.
Mr Wright is heading back to the corporate sector in Melbourne after five and a half years in the job in which he ran two federal election campaigns.
Mr Carroll, who was given the green light by the ALP national executive on Friday, will start in the new role on Monday.
He has been in the state role since 2011, spearheading Labor's successful 2014 campaign which unseated a first-term coalition government.
Labor leader Bill Shorten said Mr Carroll will make an excellent national secretary.
"I've worked closely with him for years in Victoria and I'm looking forward to him bringing his talents to the national stage," Mr Shorten told AAP on Friday.
"He's a great campaigner and a good friend."
He thanked Mr Wright for his "outstanding service".
