Levi Casboult has surprisingly ignored the lure of free agency, opting to sign a new two-year deal with his AFL home Carlton.

The marking machine was widely expected to go to market at season's end to test his value but the 27-year-old has instead committed to playing his part in Carlton's rebuild under coach Brendon Bolton.

He joins recently re-signed big man Matthew Kreuzer and defender Sam Rowe to sign up at Ikon Park.

Club football boss Andrew McKay said Casboult deserved his contract extension.

"Levi has made pleasing improvements across his game this season and has committed himself to continually developing as a key forward," he said.

"Levi is a Carlton person and we're really pleased he has chosen to remain at the Blues for a further two years in what will be an exciting period ahead for the club."

Casboult played every game in 2017 and led the club's goalkicking tally with 34.18 for the season.

Along with Kreuzer and Rowe, Casboult joins Zac Fisher, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, Andrew Phillips, Ed Curnow, Tom Williamson, Ciaran Byrne, Harrison Macreadie and Matthew Wright as Blues to re-sign since the start of the season.

Kade Simpson, who has expressed keenness to play on, is expected to sign on within days, while fellow veteran Dale Thomas could also extend his career - dependant on the contract offer from Carlton.

The club has released Kristian Jaksch, Liam Sumner and Andrew Gallucci this week, with Daniel Gorringe and Matthew Korcheck following Dennis Armfield into retirement from the AFL.
