Actors including Australia's Cate Blanchett and others close to Philip Seymour Hoffman have paid their respects at a wake in Manhattan.
The wake was held at the Frank E Campbell Funeral Home.
It has orchestrated funerals for celebrities including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and James Cagney.
Among the mourners was Amy Adams, who co-starred with Hoffman in the films Doubt and The Master.
Other notables in attendance included Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix and Diane Sawyer.
Police are investigating Hoffman's death as a suspected drug overdose.
The 46-year-old actor was found dead on Sunday in his Greenwich Village apartment.
A private funeral for relatives and close friends of Hoffman is set for Friday.
A larger memorial service will be held later this month.
The Oscar winner will also be remembered during a tribute at the Berlin International Film Festival, which kicked off on Thursday.
Organisers have added a special screening of Hoffman's Oscar-winning movie Capote to the bill, eight years after it competed at the festival.
"A lot of his friends will be joining together to remember him," jury president James Schamus said.
