Father Frank helped to steer the Catholic mass in embracing Aboriginal spirituality by incorporating Aboriginal dance, music and ceremonies.
This Easter families and friends came together to launch his book, "Jesus and the Dreaming."
Five months after his death, and family and friends gathered to celebrate the memory of a remarkable man and his legacy.
Elsie Heiss of the Sydney Aboriginal Catholic Ministry was among them.
"His administration to the Aboriginal people and his strong dedication to Aboriginal Catholic Ministry was apparent in many ways. He dedicated so much time and effort just to be there," she said.
Francis John Fletcher was born in Sydney in 1932. At 14 years of age he felt a strong pull to the Catholic church.
A decade later, he was ordained a priest.
His Nephew, Brendan Fletcher, recalls him as a man with great dedication to his faith.
"I think Frank was one of those people who was very gentle to deal with but at the same time he had a big heart and had a great passion," he said.
Father Frank ministered to the homeless of Sydney and found a strong calling towards 'heart spirituality', which led him to the spirituality of Australia’s First Peoples.
One of his dreams was for the local Koori people to set up their own church -- something they did in Erskineville and La Perouse.
Ann Weldon of the Sydney Aboriginal Catholic Ministry said part of the appeal of the Catholic Church was the way spirituality was accepted.
"They've never condemned Aboriginal peoples' way that our spirituality is our guiding force in life," she said.
"Our spirituality is a path that takes us and more importantly sustains us and gives us our strength to believe not only in ourselves but the humanity of man."
The visit of Pope John Paul II in 1986 and the Popes' public embrace of Aboriginal culture and spirituality was reaffirming in Father Franks' work with the Kooris in Sydney.
So much so that his book, Jesus and the Dreaming, begins with the Pope’s message.
Father Frank spent more than 40 years as Priest and in the last seven years of his life suffered from lewybody dementia causing loss of memory. He died last November, a month before his 82nd birthday.
