Geelong coach Chris Scott has confidently predicted his team will play much better over the closing weeks of the AFL home and away season following their late scare against Greater Western Sydney.
The Cats made it four consecutive wins and climbed into outright second with a hard-earned seven point win over the Giants in Sydney on Saturday night.
Up by 37 points in the final quarter, Geelong were forced to cling on as GWS kicked five of the last six goals.
Scott had no doubt the Cats had the scope to lift significantly over the coming weeks.
"Our destiny is in our own hands and the most important thing by a long way is that we're really excited about how much we can improve," Scott said.
"Because it's not like our best footy isn't being seen at all, I think it is in patches of games.
"It's just a few little lapses are costing us.
"We're gong to play much much better footy, I'm really confident of that."
Geelong will play the remainder of their five home and away games in Victoria, where they are unbeaten this year.
The Cats had lost four straight interstate games before holding off GWS to record only their second win in six matches outside Victoria this year.
"We've been a bit poor on the road, we don't think there's a huge issue there, although the win-loss would suggest otherwise," Scott said.
"We're pretty content in some ways when we look back. When we look forward we're far from content.
"We think we need to work really hard to change a few subtle things.
"But we didn't have any doubt even earlier in the season when we got off to a good start that we'd play much better footy in the second half.
"It's dangerous to think that, but if you look at one part and the way our season is evolving, we had a lot of players with limited preparations missing the early part of the season coming back that are going to be crucial for us the next five, hopefully, nine weeks."
